Our "Green Schools Committee" made up of Loreto students entered an "Irish Times" Environmental competition where they had to examine human influence on the environment, its effects and ways to address them. The girls' presentation was very successful and received a bursary to go towards the solutions they proposed.
The School was aware of Wyse solar solutions and in particular Anthony Pryce as he lectures on energy management and environmental solutions and suggested that the girls approach him and get a commercial view of their proposals.
After this consultation, the girls settled on installing a solar photovoltaic system. This system while supplying some of our electrical requirements also addressed the environmental conditions that prevail at the school as we are situated on the shoreline with all the variances in weather conditions this brings.
Not only does the finished system reduce our electrical requirements but Wyse also installed a monitor in the reception area displaying all the systems data relating to savings, carbon reduction etc. Added to this, the pupils studying Physics can access the technical aspects of the system and use the information to confirm the teaching principles of electrical generation.
We would have no hesitation in recommending Anthony and his company to prospective clients as they went above and beyond their remit, indeed, we also hope to add to our existing system in the near future.
